This... is my second plane. A 1977 Cessna A185F Skywagon II.
After owning the Citabria for about a year, I started growing restless. The Citabria
is an outstanding plane. I love it. And, I still say if you can only own one plane,
you should buy a Citabria. You can fly cross-country with a co-pilot for the weekend,
you can fly out to the back-country and land a couple short dirt strips, and then fly
loops, rolls, and spins on the way back home. Unfortunately, I have become very
accustomed to also saying, "The Citabria is ok at everything, but great at nothing."
Enter the Cessna A185F Skywagon II. Remember your buddy in high school that drove his
mom's old 1970 Buick Roadmaster stationwagon? The one with the 454 up front, and 6
seats in back... This plane is the Buick Roadmaster of the sky. Not the handling of
your other high school friend's RX-7, but in a straight line, there's nothing that
can beat her... with 6 of your buddies in the back seat.
The plane is a peach. 300hp. 86 inch prop. 8.50x6.00 tires. 84 gallons of fuel.
Garmin GNS 430. If the Dukes of Hazard flew planes... this is what they would have flown.
